Project: Foodchain
Client: David Jones
Location: Australia
Discipline: Brand Strategy | Naming | Identity | Interiors | Graphics | Packaging | Uniforms | Retail | Food

Designed and implemented by our team in just 10 months, Foodchain was David Jones' first departure from the traditional department store format. Our design is purposely 'workmanlike', the intention being to move away from the plastic, artificial finishes often associated with large format food retailing.

Instead, we concentrated on the colours, textures and finishes of an authentic market. Materials such as concrete with recycled timber flooring, galvanised steel, and gloss black wall tiles have been used to give the store a contemporary edge. Warm lighting with high and low points provides emphasis on key areas.

The natural feel of the design is continued in the 'brown paper' approach to packaging, promotional material, and point-of-sale. Uniforms are designed as informal, friendly 'workwear'.

"Landini Associates design for Foodchain by David Jones addresses our need for a practical retail operating environment that is also visually stunning." – Shane Tremble, General Manager, Foodchain
